Did you know? Loading an excessive amount of programs and services
into memory every time Windows XP starts will increase the time
it takes Windows XP to display the desktop. In many cases, Windows
XP will display the hour glass icon for several seconds (sometimes
minutes), before allowing you to begin working on your computer.
The more programs and services you have loading, the longer you
have to wait. Many of them are optional items and can be disabledpreventing
them from loading each time Windows XP starts up.
If your computer starts running slowly or performing abnormally,
you might be able to pinpoint the program or service that is causing
the problem, by disabling some of the startup items and services.
If your computer crashes or will not load Windows XP in normal mode,
then try disabling all startup items and services (except Microsoft
services) in safe mode and then restarting your computer, to load
Windows normally.
Follow the steps below to determine which programs and services
are loading into memory when Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
starts up.
