How to Turn Off System Restore

Some procedures require that you turn System Restore off before continuing. For example, when installing the Windows Update patch that protects your computer from the Blaster Worm virus, you are instructed to turn off System Restore before installing the patch or it won't work correctly. However, turning off System Restore and then turning it back on and creating a new Restore Point has a beneficial side-effect - it erases all previous Restore Points - effectively cleaning up your disk space!
