the manufacturer of your computer or by the operating system manufacturer

How to Change
the Name of the Computer
When you get a new computer, the default 'Computer Name'
is usually a name you really don't want. You can change it by simply
renaming it!
Here's how to change the name of the computer:

Step 1: With the left mouse button, click on the 'Start'
button.
|
|
Step 2: With the right mouse
button, click on 'My Computer'.
|
|
Step 3: With the left mouse button, click on 'Properties'.
|
|
Step 4: With the left mouse button, click on the 'Computer
Name' tab.
|
|
Step 5: With the left mouse button, click on the 'Change...'
button.
|
|
Step 6: Type a new name in the 'Computer Name' textbox.
|
|
Step 7: With the left mouse button, click on the 'OK'
button.
|
|
A message box appears: 'You must restart this computer for the
changes to take effect.'.
Step 8: With the left mouse button, click on the 'OK'
button.
|
|
The 'System Properties' dialog box reappears, with the 'Computer
Name' tab selected.
Step 9: With the left mouse button, click on the 'OK'
button.
A message box appears: 'You must restart your computer before
the new settings will take effect. Do you want to restart your
computer now?'
Step 10: With the left mouse button, click on the 'Yes'
button.
The computer restarts and the Computer Name has now been
changed.
